Hi everyone, welcome to my 31st blog! This is the Week 7 post for CST 334 Operating Systems.
  • Write a 1-2 paragraph journal post, of at least 250 words, of what you learned this week in CST 334.
    • Week 7 had about the same amount of material of other weeks with a total of four chapters. The lecture videos help recap these textbook readings, covering concepts such as I/O devices, hard drives, files and directories, file systems (data), and file systems (access). The latter two videos both come from OSTEP Chapter 40, they are just split between "a" and "b" based on a data or access focus on file systems. For the readings of this week, I read OSTEP Chapters 36, 37, 39, and 40. Assignments tied to the lecture side of this week include watching the aforementioned lecture videos, Quiz 6, and the Week 6 Discussion. This week, each contributor finished up their portions of the group project video. The idea of using the scripts to translate well for the group summary seemed to also pay off. In addition to these two group-related segments there are two individual segments: the  peer assessment and personal reflection. Finally, there was an extra credit opportunity available by filling out the survey sent out by the CS Online advisor, Kayla.

    • While Week 7 did not have a Programming Assignment, it did house a lab on persistence calculations. The types of problems present in this lab included calculation of hard drive access times, calculation of inode access, and determining the operation executed between two Very Simple File System (VSFS) states. The VSFS problems are based on this Python simulation made by the authors of our textbook.

That is all for this week, see you in my Week 32 post!
