Weeks 65 - 72 (4/27/2026 - 6/21/2026)

Hi everyone, welcome to my 65th-72nd blog! This is the Week 1-8 post for a bit of an awkward time in my CSUMB CS Online journey, and one that quite frankly happened by chance. It was discovered that I was not required to take CST383 Introduction to Data Science in order to graduate from the program. As a result, I decided to drop the course and instead take the Summer 2026 A term to recharge after a little over a year of near-nonstop grinding in this program.

That being said, the idea of considering an online program for a M.S. in Computer Science has been in the back of my head basically since the beginning of my B.S. in Computer Science here at CSUMB. Since I now have this newfound eight weeks of free time, I believe now is the perfect opportunity to begin preparing my graduate school applications. To be completely honest, there is really only one school I am considering, and it is the Online Master's in Computer Science (OMSCS) program offered by Georgia Institute of Technology, also known as Georgia Tech.

As time goes on, I will update the entries below with the efforts I have made in this process.

  • Georgia Tech Application Timeline
    • Late April: I began the application and filled out all the blanks
      • This was all the mundane stuff like biographical information, academic history, etc.
    • All of May: Finalizing the application, letters of recommendation
      • The main thing I still needed after April was letter of recommendations. I reached out to most of my CS Online professors, and four of them confirmed they would be interested in writing a letter. Of these four, two actually submitted a letter to the Georgia Tech application portal. For my third letter, I got my supervisor (Staff Software Architect, and a former VP of Engineering), to write me an industry recommendation. I had learned two academic letters and one professional letter was the ideal combination for applicants who are already working in the industry. With that, I was done with recommendation letters, as Georgia Tech requires exactly three. No more, no less.
    • August 7: I got accepted!!!
    • Summary: I began the application on April 22, and submitted on May 22. Exactly a month. Then, I was accepted on August 7.

That is all for this week, see you in my Week 73 post!
Onward to CST 438 Software Engineering!
