Hi everyone, welcome to my 12th blog! This is the Week 4 post for CST 338 Software Design.

This week, we were tasked to work with two classmates to review each other's code for Project 1. I chose to review two teammates from my group Silicon Surfers (CST 300 group).

  • Project 1 - Legally Distinct Pocket Monsters (Review)
    • With whom did you work?
      • I again worked with two teammates from my CST 300 group Silicon Surfers: Michael Sorensen and Wootark Kim.
    • What was your strategy for solving the assignments?
      • I would think it through, and I did do a bit of digital planning for the project.
    • What was their strategy for solving the assignments?
      • Their strategy was similar for most things, although some differences arose in our methods of implementing attackModifier and setPhrase. For instance, Wootark and I both used old fashioned if else logic to determine attackModifier, while Michael used a HashMap to solve the same logic in a way that definitely looks cleaner.
    • According to your classmate(s): how well does your code follow the Google Java Style Guide? Did you know you can automate applying some of the style guide rules?Links to an external site.
      • They said that my code closely follows the Google Style Guide.
      • Yes I did, in fact this is something I asked Dr. C about very early in the semester.
    • What was the most challenging part?
      •  I think the most challenging part of this project was writing the attackModifier method. Although you can use advanced data structures such as HashMap for the logic required (as one of my classmates did), I chose to use an old fashioned if else branch to determine the correct modifier. Part of this is because I come from a community college that disallowed solutions that use advanced data structure logic.
    • What are you most proud of
      • I know it sounds silly, but I think my biggest victory is that I submitted this project two days before the due date as I felt like it was going to take me the entire week to finish it.
    • How did you celebrate completing the assignment?
      • My mother and I went to have a nice dinner at Outback Steakhouse after I completed this project. We shared the 8oz Victoria's Filet Mignon. It is quite a good steak, I would recommend it as long as your diet does not restrict you from eating steak. For the first side I got cheese fries (similar to their Aussie Cheese Fries appetizer) and my mom got a garden salad for the second side.

That is all for this week, see you in my Week 13 post!
