Hi everyone, welcome to my student blog! My name is Brandon and I am beginning my journey through the CS Online program at California State University, Monterey Bay (CSUMB). The program begins by taking CST 300 Major ProSeminar, and for the next eight weeks my blog posts will revolve around that course.
For the lecture section of the course, this week focused on the following:
- Module 1 Lecture
- Visited a few pages of the csumb.edu website in order to learn more about the college and the School of Computing & Design's faculty and what their roles are.
- Watched a two minute long video that gives valuable insight on strategies for online learning success. There are two optional videos in this module that I chose to watch.
- Connecting with Faculty and the Class
- In this assignment, I was asked to complete my Canvas profile, say hi to Dr. Tao on Google Hangouts, create a LinkedIn account and connect to Dr. Tao and friends. For now, I decided to just connect with Dr. Tao and the members of my group Silicon Surfers. Finally, I recorded a short self-introduction on YouTube. I have linked my Blogger, LinkedIn, and this YouTube video in the Team Roster and Learning Journal Links spreadsheet for easy access.
- CollabU Pretest & Module 1
- In the CollabU Pretest, I was asked a total of 26 questions mostly pertaining to team meeting dynamics. In CollabU Module 1, I was to observe a group meeting and identify poor meeting behaviors demonstrated in the video. I found a total of six.
- Team Meeting Minutes
- My group Silicon Surfers worked together to create a Team Meeting Minutes document that can be reused each week in order to keep records of what is said in our team meetings.
- Team Meeting With Instructors
- My group Silicon Surfers agreed on a time of January 16th at 6:15PM to meet with our instructor(s). I am very much looking forward to that team meeting, which is five days from now.
- Creating Learning Journal and Publishing First Post
- Hey, that's what this is!
For the writing section of the course, this week focused on the following:
- Module 1 Writing Lab
- We learned (or got a reminder on) the rules of academic writing and APA formatting. At my community college, I always used MLA formatting so there was a lot of good information for me to pick up on.
- We became acquainted with the requirements and rubric of the Industry Analysis paper.
- There were also links demonstrating how to document and cite sources in APA format.
- Writing Lab: Industry Analysis Outline and Reference Page
- In this assignment, we got to draft up an outline for the Industry Analysis paper and include a few primary or secondary sources as references.
